The Depository Trust Company, a subsidiary of The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, launched the DTCC Tokenization Service on October 28, 2026, according to DTCC. The service mints tokenized representations of securities held at DTC, which holds more than $114 trillion in assets under custody.
Eligible users can convert DTC entitlements between traditional and tokenized form and deliver the tokenized securities to digital wallets of their choice. DTCC said the tokens keep the same ownership rights, investor protections and economic entitlements as the traditional securities.
Twenty DTC participants have signed agreements to use the service, including J.P. Morgan, Citi, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Fidelity Investments, Citadel Securities, State Street, Barclays, BNP Paribas, UBS, Edward Jones and Alpaca. DTCC said further users will be onboarded on a rolling basis. Ecosystem partners include BitGo, Fireblocks, Ondo, Tradeweb, Talos and Virtu.
The service is integrated with the Canton Network and DTCC’s private Besu network, with more blockchain networks planned for 2027. In December 2025, the Securities and Exchange Commission issued a no-action letter allowing DTC to tokenize Russell 1000 constituents, ETFs tracking major indices and US Treasury securities. In July 2026, DTCC and more than 30 firms completed initial limited-production trades using tokenized DTC-held assets.
Frank La Salla, president and CEO of DTCC, said the launch “marks the culmination of years of work to bring tokenized securities into a regulated framework.” Brian Steele, president of clearing and securities services, said the industry “is ready to move beyond experimentation and toward practical adoption.”
